What is SEL?

Reflecting on the Social and Emotional Learning course I attended this year, I’m incredibly grateful for the bi-weekly sessions, the insightful readings and the enriching group reflections.

A special thank you to Libby Edmonds for her exceptional SEL coaching skills - her expertise truly made this experience transformative.

I’ve come to realise that SEL begins with the individual. It’s about creating safe spaces for every child, colleague and leader. One should be willing to do the inner work needed to function from a place of positive intelligence.

Every teacher has the potential to become to become a conscious SEL teacher, bringing the vital learning to life in our classrooms and communities.

This type of learning aligns with the true essence of who we are as South Africans and as global citizens, fostering empathy, connection and Ubuntu.

With thanks to Sinoxolo Ndlovu Project Manager Mentor and Hub Leader of KICP
